The challenge

What we were solving

The managing partner ran a mid-market PE fund with a strong track record in Southeast Asia technology and consumer investments. His competitors — other fund managers of similar size and vintage — were increasingly building public LinkedIn presences: sharing deal perspectives, market insights, and investment theses. LPs, particularly family offices and institutional allocators new to the region, were using LinkedIn to evaluate fund managers before making introductions.

He had 900 followers, posted approximately once a month (usually a firm announcement), and had no content strategy. He was acutely aware of the problem — he'd watched two LP introductions go to competitors whose managing partners he knew were less experienced but significantly more visible on LinkedIn. The constraint was time: as a two-partner fund actively managing a portfolio and fundraising simultaneously, he had almost none.

Our approach

What AppLabx did

AuthorityIQ™ was used to benchmark his profile and content against the top 50 PE professionals on LinkedIn in the Southeast Asia and APAC region — analysing which content formats, topics, and posting cadences were building the most valuable audiences (LPs, co-investors, and founder networks rather than generic follower counts).

We ran a structured voice-capture process: two 90-minute sessions covering his investment philosophy, deal stories, market perspectives, and the frameworks he uses to evaluate opportunities. From these sessions, we extracted a 6-month content plan covering five recurring themes: Southeast Asia consumer behaviour shifts, technology investment theses, portfolio company founder lessons, fundraising and LP relationship dynamics, and personal leadership reflections.

Two posts per week were produced on his behalf — consistently in his voice, specific to real deals and real market observations, and written for a professional audience that could immediately distinguish genuine PE insight from generic content. We also produced one long-form LinkedIn Article per month covering a single investment thesis in depth — these became the primary content drivers for LP engagement.

The results

What happened

Follower growth was consistent from month two: 500–900 new followers per week by month six, reaching 22,000 by month twelve. More importantly, the quality of the audience was exceptional — verified by the profile types following and engaging: family office principals, institutional allocators, co-investment partners, and founders seeking growth capital.

The two LP relationships closed in months nine and eleven respectively. Both originated the same way: the LP had been following his content for several months, reached out directly via LinkedIn message referencing a specific article, and the relationship progressed entirely through LinkedIn before moving to phone and in-person meetings.

Four speaking invitations from investment conferences and LP events were received in the twelve-month period — all citing his LinkedIn content as the reason for the invitation. The managing partner now considers LinkedIn his primary business development channel.

"I was deeply sceptical that LinkedIn content could move the needle for LP fundraising. This is a relationship business — everyone knows that. What AppLabx showed me is that content is how you build relationships at scale before you've met someone. The two LP relationships we closed through LinkedIn are now our largest by AUM."
