What we were solving
The company delivered leadership, management, and L&D programmes to corporate clients across the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Their existing client relationships were excellent — NPS scores consistently above 70, high repeat purchase rates. The problem was new client acquisition. They were heavily dependent on referrals from existing clients, which created a pipeline that was lumpy, unpredictable, and capped by the size of their existing client network.
Their target buyers — L&D managers, HR directors, and senior operations leaders at mid-to-large companies — were extremely active on LinkedIn. But the company had no systematic way to engage them at scale. Their LinkedIn Company Page existed but wasn't being used strategically. They had no LinkedIn Group, no events programme, and no content strategy beyond occasional post-programme social proof posts.
What AppLabx did
GrowthLoop™ analysis of their existing client base and LinkedIn audience revealed a clear pattern: their most engaged LinkedIn followers were L&D practitioners — people who consumed learning and development content professionally, not just as a purchasing function. This was the insight that shaped the community strategy: build a LinkedIn Group positioned as the leading L&D community for Southeast Asia, rather than as a brand-owned marketing channel. The company becomes the convener and host, not the seller.
The group — positioned as an independent professional community for L&D practitioners with curated discussion threads, member spotlights, and monthly LinkedIn Live events — launched with seeded membership from existing clients and contacts. Content programming was built around weekly discussion prompts, bi-weekly expert posts, and monthly LinkedIn Live sessions featuring practitioners sharing real L&D challenges and solutions.
AppLabx managed the group daily: approving member requests (vetted to ensure quality), moderating discussions, posting content, and responding to every comment and question within 4 hours. The LinkedIn Live sessions — averaging 45 minutes, featuring external practitioners, and promoted through both the group and targeted Sponsored Content — became the highest-engagement touchpoint.
What happened
Membership grew from zero to 6,800 in nine months. Growth rate accelerated each month as word-of-mouth within the L&D community drove organic referrals — by month six, 60% of new members were joining through member invitations rather than company promotion. GrowthLoop™ quality scoring confirmed that 78% of members matched the company's ICP for training services.
LinkedIn Live events averaged 340 live viewers per session by month six, with replay views adding a further 200–400 views per event. These events became the primary lead generation mechanism: 18% of live event attendees clicked through to the company's training programme pages in the 48 hours following each event.
By month nine, LinkedIn had become the company's highest-volume source of new business enquiries — surpassing referrals for the first time in the company's history. The community created a flywheel: members became buyers, buyers became members, and the entire L&D community in Southeast Asia associated the company's name with the best LinkedIn community in their field.
"We expected the community to be a long-term brand play. We didn't expect it to become our top lead source in 9 months. The key insight AppLabx brought was to build a community for practitioners, not for buyers. When you do that, the commercial outcome takes care of itself."Founder & CEO · Professional Training Company · Philippines (identity withheld by mutual agreement)
